GAUGE
Gauge is not critical for this project. In double crochet, 20 sts = 5.5"/14 cm and 8 rows = 5"/12.7 cm
STITCHES USED
Chain (ch); Double crochet (dc); Reverse single crochet (Rev sc); Treble crochet (tr)
NOTE
Blanket is worked in Panels, then joined with Rev sc, making it an ideal take-along project for busy Mom's
on-the-go. Stitch patterns are attractive on both sides.

SHELL PANEL (Make 5)
Using A, chain 7; join with a slip st to form a ring, turn.
Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), in the center of the ring, work 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), in the ch-3 space of previous row, work [3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc], dc in last st (turning ch-3 of previous row), turn. Repeat Row 2 for a total of 50 shells. Fasten off A; join B.
Edging: Using B, beginning at one short end, * work 15 tr evenly across end; working along long edge, work 3 dc
in each ch-3 space (turning ch) along side of Panel (49 groups of 3-dc—147 sts); repeat from * on remaining end
and side edge, end join with a slip st in first st. Fasten off.
STRIPE PANEL (Make 6)
Using C, chain 149.
Row 1: Hdc in third ch from hook (skipped ch-2 counts as first st) and in each ch across, turn—147 hdc plus
beginning ch. Note: It is important that each Panel be the same length, for joining to the Shell Panels – be sure
sts count is correct. Mark Row 1 as RS.
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in each st across, turn. Fasten off C; join B with a slip st in first st.
Row 3 (RS): Ch 1, sc in first hdc, tr in next hdc, *sc in next hdc, tr in next hdc; repeat from * across, turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first tr, tr in next sc, *sc in next tr, tr in next sc; repeat from * across, turn. Fasten off B; join C with a slip st in first tr.
Row 5 (RS): Ch 2 (counts as first st), hdc in next sc and in each st across, turn. Row 6: Ch 2, hdc in each st across. Fasten off.
FINISHING (refer to photo for layout)
Join Panels: * Place one Shell Panel and one Stripe panel together, with wrong-sides facing each other; beginning
at first group of 3-dc on Shell panel and short end of Stripe panel, join yarn with a slip st in back loop only of
both pieces, ready to work from left to right. Ch 1, work in Rev sc evenly across, working through back loops of
both panels. Fasten off. Repeat from * 4 times—5 sets of 2-panels each. Join each set of panels to another set in
the same manner (in Rev sc). Join last Stripe panel to the free side of Shell panel—11 panels joined, with a Stripe
panel at each side and between each Shell panel.
Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
Edging – Sides: Join C with a slip st at one side, ready to work from left to right; Row 1: Working in the front
loop only, work 1 row Rev sc evenly along side, turn. Row 2: Ch 1, working in back loop only, work 1 row sc
evenly along side. Fasten off. Work opposite side edge in the same manner.
Edging – Ends: Join C with a slip st in corner st, ready to work in the usual manner.
Row 1: Ch 1, * on Stripe panels, work 9 sc evenly across end of panel; on Shell panels, work sc in next st, [2 sc in next st (inc), sc in next 2 sts] across end of panel, ending sc in last st; repeat from * across, end 9 sc across last Stripe panel, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, * on Stripe panels, sc in first 2 sts, skip next 2 sts, in center st work 10 tr, skip 2
sts, sc in last 2 sts; on Shell panels, work in sc across, inc 1 st (sc 2 sts in same st) in every fourth st; repeat from * across, end with last Stripe panel. Fasten off.
